Article Summary
Have you ever wondered what happens to furniture and building materials when a school permanently closes? After a tornado damaged the Elias Brookings school in Springfield, the city sold the building to an affordable housing nonprofit called Home City Development, Inc (HDCI), who planned to turn the building into apartments. Instead of disposing of all of the leftover furniture and materials, HDCI worked with EcoBuilding Bargains to find reuse partners for as much of the leftover materials as possible. Check out the article for more information about this impactful project.
”CET took some materials for its store, EcoBuilding Bargains, and connected Serafino to other nearby reuse outlets, like Westfield Habitat for Humanity ReStore. CET helped the developer find other players to assist with logistics to properly manage and move some of what remained.”
